These are epoxy and fiberglass castings that have been cured in the molds so that absolutely no distortion has occurred. The edges need to be trimmed and these then get cut into the parts that will finally become the production masters. These castings are too thin as they are, so thickness will be added. In my efforts to get the interior lighting figured out, I made some assumptions that led me to go with a technique similar to lighting a scene for a movie. The assumption was due to a failed attempt to use the lighting panels in the ceiling as the source of Pod Bay illumination. The Little D comes with one Pod Bay door open, with the Pod in that position facing outward, on an extendable landing pad.



The diameter of the Pod is a little over an inch, so you can imagine there isn't much room inside. The headlights are .100 in diameter. Lighting them up has been a real head-scratcher. Keep in mind that the Pod is 13.5 inches tall and you'll realize just how big this mold is! We will be seeing the first castings out of this mold about this time next week.

These first 3 photos show the module and neck castings. All of the neck pieces are done, that is to say all the parts that go from the back of the CM to the spine. About 3/4 of the spine modules have been cast.
