I was one the initial 20 or so to buy in on the Big Aries. The initial offer was also to include a "bonus Moonbus". When that went away I did not say anything. Figured I'd add my two cents (wait, it's only one cent, due to the current economic downturn......)

While I can agree with the frustration of some posters here about the lagging timelines (I myself am waiting on an Underwriter's Small-D ordered back in the Fall of '04) -- I also knew what I was signing on for.

Perhaps the perspective comes from being an artist...

As someone who has three underwriter's models and several kits on order, I share many of the concerns of others although not nearly the same degree of frustration since I didn't get in until late. I would also like to see steady progress on these models posted, even though the act of photographing and blogging necessarily decreases productivity. I would personally prefer the small Aries to ship first since this was "guaranteed" over two months ago.

The times that I have spoken to Scott and just generally ask hows things are going, I always get some kind of an update for this kit or that, not necessarily ones that I have on order, just general. I notice that sometimes Scott discovers a slight issue in the master or casting of a part that does not necessarily need to be addressed as an "update" since it is only a slight problem that needs attention on his part. I agree that Scott is doing his best in a situation that has clearly deteriorated (from kit design changes, to "hot summers" to issues with income, family, mortgage, business partners, health, and many others). Personally, I've always said I just want to see reasonable expectations set, some monthly progress posted for the various projects, and some sort of idea that things are moving along toward deliveries for each project.

I think an issue is the creation of new kits (Klingon, Botany Bay, and so on) before the Underwriter's kits are finished and delivered. That may contribute to the frustration among the Underwriters.

I can understand impatience and i can agree with the desire to get things done.

But i totally disagree with:

I never said the photo showed all the rubber that got poured. I took the photo at a time I was switching from an empty bucket to a full one, to continue the pour. I simply took a moment to shoot a photo to show you could see the level of the rubber. However, pouring new rubber against cured rubber has always resulted in a good bond, in my experience. It may be true that chemically there is no bond, but why else do people use a release when making the second half of a mold!

I was thinking that too. That even if the rubber stuck to itself, it would be weak at that point, or there would be a residual seam in the casting. But then, I had thought the saran wrap would be a problem until I understood that the clay was simply a place holder for the rubber and had no other use. I initially thought the clay was there to make an impression of surface detail for later molding needs.

Wow indeed; thank you, Scott. It's going to be interesting how I display this someday--I suppose I will want to add a skeletal spine with the Antenna kit, and some sort of engine compartment that shows early construction. And then get agreement from my wife to hang the entire model from the 16' ceiling in the Great Room...
