This is a partial casting of the lower hull, only what was needed to check some problems with the baseplate castings. The baseplate is made of 4 identical
castings and it is what the engines and landing gear are anchored to. There is a problem with how the engines mount and clearance of a perforated flange that
goes around each engine. With the engines located on the existing centers, the flange either contacts the inside surface of the lower hull or clears it such
that you might be able...

In February I was part of a crew in the Mars Society's Mars Desert Research Station in southern Utah. The hab was designed to be representative of a Mars
base. Someone on a previous crew had the presence of mind to tape a copy of the infamous Zero-G toilet instructions on the inside of the door of the (very)
tiny bathroom. So after two weeks there I practically memorized the damned thing. :-) So I trust the decal sheet will have the very same instructions?

ioseeker, you crack me up! Imagine a bar server (cigars, wine, etc.) that raises up with the Aries as the host... :-) Love the idea of adding lunar surface
material to the display!

Seriously, I recently bought my 5-yr old son an old "Major Matson" Space Station. It's equiped with exterior lights. Have to give this some
thought down the line, but I do like the idea...

My idea is still to use a plywood platform with a combination of plaster and cement powder for color. I will use warm seltzer instead of water to bring out
small craters and make the larger craters manually. I did this about 40 years ago for a 1/48 scale LM diorama I made and it worked beautifully! No matter how
close or far away you looked, you had a realistic surface. I used some charcoal to fine tune the textures. This Aries model is one that I have been truly
excited about given the...

Check out your local home depot in the wood dept. for Pine Rounds. They have an 18"x1.5ish" board for $10 that is just big enough for this guy.

I just read an article that interviewed Alfred Wong about pattern making for model kits. It was thoroughly fascinating and pointed out that the detail
(surfaces, structures, etc.) of a finished kit is one thing. The *engineering* of how to assemble the parts to make that finished kit is another. And here we
see that Scott (of course) is also a master of pattern making. I really enjoy seeing how all of the problems are solved and how all of this work goes into
making a better finished model...
