I think this is one of Scott's most impressive kits so I bought this as soon as it was announced. It looks easy to build but it's not. To get smooth
joins and flawless paintwork is a challenge. I used Tamiya grey then white undercoat, with sanding and polishing between coats to get a smooth white finish.
The next big challenge is of course masking the stripes. Scott has provided some templates but I'm still considering how to get the bottom stripes
parallel to the base....

I don't think there is much of a concern here. If the model is displayed inside one's house, unless the temperature varies quite a bit everything
should be fine. Also, I have found that adding a bit of body filler inside the canopy where it meets at the rear provides an extra bit of adhesion. In the
past, I've drilled into that 'back wall' to provide an even better bit of 'grab' for the body filler. I'll post some photos of this
soon.

White metal does not out-gas. It is "only" the thermo-couple effect of having two or more pieces of different specific-heat-capacity as part of a
laminate. Metal with non-metal will contract and expand at vastly differing rates. A possible way to fill the "moving Gap" would be silicone sealant
(the paintable type). Just a thought..... Good-Luck ;-)

Looking at the great images of the above build, I've been thinking about that too. After a short while the only thing holding the canopy on will be the
skin of paint around it. Unless a mechanical fastener is used somehow. As an aside, does anyone know if white metal out-gasses? --Jim

Looks great.
I admit I've been concerned about achieving a fast & permanent bond between the resin hull and brass canopy. I've experienced problems with
joining two such dissimilar materials in the past. Makes me wonder whether it wouldn't be easier in the long run to construct a new canopy out of styrene.
The last thing I need is to finish this deceptively challenging model only to have the canopy pop off on me.

was painted white for the Douglas scheme, though.
That cast canopy frame is heavy! It looks great. I know it's accurate to the actual rocket set, but the blank hull under the canopy is beggin to be cut out
and a flight deck put in. Maybe I can scarf a couple of seats from an 50s airliner cockpit. Isn't that what they used in some of the Disney Men in Space
films?
