Stefan-- I do plan on making the Orion at 1:72 scale. The Aries is 1:80 scale because I used a standard 6-inch hemisphere for the master. The difference in scale is about 10%, but since the Orion is harder to assign scale to, they should look great together. Don't look for this new Orion for a long while, though!

The molds are finished and I'm casting parts. I'll have some photos up soon. I also need to make up an assembly guide, though I'll be posting the more esoteric information here and most of you won't need the assembly guide. With few exceptions, this kit goes together in a rather obvious manner!

You are right about that depression. Its on that part and the other 3. That's what I'm working to fix right now. I didn't realize how bad it was when I made the mold for this part because the master is transparent and shows no shadows. I should have everything fixed and molded by the end of today (Sunday, April 26) and you guys won't have to worry about dealing with it. If I don't run into any surprises, I'll be done with the molds over this weekend. Kits would start shipping in the first week of May. Of course, I also have to get ready for Wonderfest, which means I'll be out of action May 14-18. Still, I should get some kits out in the first week. I should be able to clear all existing orders before the end of May.

I've had my fair share of sculpting (prehistoric animals) with so minute of details that I use a 20X magnifying visor to help me out sometimes. Like you said, unless someone wants to scrutinize with a microscope, the overall impression gives much more information about the pattern than the individual components that make it up. I doubt that anyone who receives the Aries is going to frown on something that is only a hairs width difference. Many kudos to your sculpting expertise Scott!...

This won't seem like much, but it really is--

The corrugated skirt is a complete bitch to get right and this one still isn't right, though I'm calling it good enough. Some of the panels are nice and even, some have details that are uneven. This image is larger than the part itself, which exaggerates any uneven detailing. Keep in mind the rods I used to make the skirt detail were only .025 in...

All I can say, Tom, is that things just don't go as we all would like them to. I'm not attacking you or being snide, I'm just saying something that's true. I will have some new photos over the weekend and by that time very little will be left to be done. And I am casting up all the parts I have already finished, so getting the kits out once the last parts are finished will go very quickly. Please keep in mind that Jim isn't able to work, so I'm doing my job and his job...
