Posts: 1211 (04/09/08 00:20:09) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Over the past few months, I have been acting as an advisor to an established company; providing information on the details of the 2001 spacesuit. I have been asked to poll those who visit my site with regard to this project. Their intention is to make a better product than Twinch Squad and actually deliver the product! They are still waiting on bids from manufacturers, mainly to determine if all the details will be injection-molded plastic or metal. They are talking with Dullea and Lockwood re licensing their likenesses. There is no release date, yet. They've asked me to post this without saying what company is involved, which will be revealed later. For now, this is just a gauge. I also need to say I am not involved in this in any way other than being an advisor. I'm not even going to sell them. So-- Their idea is to provide a set of 3 figures-- silver, red and yellow. In addition to the figures, the set would include a green helmet and gloves/hands, as well as the AE-35 unit and some of the scientific equipment seen at TMA-1. The price for this set would probably be close to $275. The set would be limited to 500 units. I can't figure out how to set this up as a poll, so please post your thoughts on this here. 1) Your interest with regard to what is in or not in the set. 2) Your interest with regard to single figures at a per-figure higher price. 3) Your interest with regard to the price. 4) Your interest with regard to a pre-order special price. I will be posting photos of this project as development progresses. Exactly when development starts, I don't know. They are concerned about the Twinch Squad debacle and want to assure everyone this project is in no way connected to that. Scott CaptCBoard@AOL.com

Posts: 4 (04/09/08 05:22:56) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	In short, I believe the package as offered is workable as is the price, provided it is at Twinch Squad or Captain Cardboard levels of realism / detail. I would also mention that the materials be something that will still look 'fresh' after 10-30 years in a collection. Fittings and such should be metal, etc. so they have that authentic level of realism. Some detail people might want a BLUE suit (3rd in Discovery Pod bay) as well - not an issue with me. However, don't forget a HAL brain room key and well as the special Nikon camera for the TMA suit. I can live without the mess kit box (it was actually a redressed container, can't recall what it was) for the TMA suit. As for price, $275 is fine. I'd up for a pre-order at a pre-order price, I've been a patient Pod underwriter for 3-4 years. Greg

IIRC, the prices range from $90 to $125 and the quality is superb, so the price seems about right for a 3 figures set. Of course, metal fittings would be an improvement over plastic. Hand props like the camera and the brain room key would be the best thing, and/or the equipment that was shown in that iconic Bob McCall poster. I think it's easy to avoid the Twinch quagmire: deliver the product! A pre-order special is always appreciated! Steven Lee Forbidden Plastic

I'd prefer just a red Bowman figure, but if a threesome as described were the only option, I'd bite. Green helmet/gloves nice touch, but not necessary. TMA-1 tripod thingie would be a nice touch. AE-35 for both Dave/Frank, HAL key for Dave would be nice, with maybe a HAL faceplate (LED?) on a wall as a backdrop ...? 2. I'd pay higher for a single figure. 3. Price for the set is great. But a single should be well below the Enterbay Bruce Lee prices. Yikes! 4. Pre-order special price? Sure. I agree with Gregory on the longevity of the materials used. Metal fittings would add a lot of value. They sure looked good on the Twinch figures. Blue suit not necessary. IMO, the big value would be realistic scale and proportion. If the naked figure is underweight, so much the better to make the suit look proper, and not like a gorilla suit. Gloves/boots should be snap-on to wrists/ankles to keep them small, not fitting over naked hands/feet.

Posts: 38 (04/10/08 13:45:59) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Beibg the proud and thus poor owner of all 4 Twinch suits-blue also,and having the SOB use the money we sent him to produce suits for retail outlets,and having the honour of paying twice....first,use a better hose material,twinch's was fragile, 2nd,plan on fitting a thin figure with all the joints flexible (Dragon will do-ever see that footaage of Gordo Cooper suiting up for Mercury?-Twinch squad makes that look like donning a bathrobe.-and never plan on getting the figures out again )3)Whats wrong with blue-it looks good and its nice to have the figures in varied poses,full eva, chest pack only,holding helmet etc.Hell,why not green full suit 4)custom Poole/bowman heads? I guess I'd be interested,moreso with the accessories available separately.At the stated price,I guess my existing set,except the blue,could be ebay'd as..er..difficult to obtain elsewhere

Like Greg, I've been a patient 1/6-scale EVA Pod Underwriter for years, and would like to have scale figures to display with my Pod when it arrives someday. I would like to see the suited figures done right, meaning that they could be displayed with Scott's Pod and not look like toys. 1) Your interest with regard to what is in or not in the set. The three suits and figures in the set sound good to me. If the figures in the red and yellow Discovery suits will have custom Bowman and Poole headsculpts, respectively, what about a Floyd sculpt for the silver Clavius suit? Assuming the heads will be finished (painted), it might be nice to get an "old" version of Bowman, too. If the air hoses on the suits are detachable, it would be nice to have a "severed" version for the yellow helmet. The extra green helmet and gloves is a great idea; definitely include a Brain Room key with these. An empty blue suit (no figure) would also be an attractive option for display, but there may not be enough interest among other customers to make it cost-effective. 2) Your interest with regard to single figures at a per-figure higher price. If I bought a single figure, it would be Bowman in the red suit. I would opt for a three-figure set that included Bowman over a single Bowman figure, but think the single figure at a higher price is a nice option for those interested only in Bowman. 3) Your interest with regard to the price. The tentative price for the three-figure set sounds good to me, especially if we're talking about machined metal parts rather than plastic. I'd rather pay more and have a display piece of museum quality and detail than pay less and have a fancy G.I. Joe. 4) Your interest with regard to a pre-order special price. By "pre-order," does this yet-to-be-revealed company mean "pay-in-advance"? I'm not the only one wary after Twinch Fraud. If pre-ordering would require payment in advance, I'd want to be sure of the company's reliability (company with an established history and good reputation), and see photos of the prototype and a detailed description of the product (including materials), before making any commitment. But if it were the right company and right product, I'd have no problem putting money down in advance. That's what most of us have done with Atomic City, right? "Your old titles mean nothing here... Here's my aswers to your poll: 1) Your interest with regard to what is in or not in the set. I would go for the full set if possible. 2) Your interest with regard to single figures at a per-figure higher price. While I would get a complete set, I might opt to purchase a second copy of a figure depending on the final single figure price. 3) Your interest with regard to the price. The price point you mentioned sounds reasonable. 4) Your interest with regard to a pre-order special price. Depending on the reputation of the company offering the deal, I would most likely pre-order and pre-pay for the figures. Hope this helps! Mike

But I do hope this does not prevent you, (In your own time) producing your similar Figures in Resin that have been spoken about and 1 of which you have produced so far as they are in scale with the 1/12 scale Pod (I have one and it is wonderful ) . Also the clasic diarama with the Aries 1-B comming in to land with your Lunar group in the fore-ground is a lot easier to do in forced perspective with the suited figures 1/12 and the craft 1/32 even if it means renting Roberts Garage Dave Last Edited By: dsscse 04/14/08 12:09:25. Price is fine too. I've been hoping for years that somebody would do these. And yes........I was badly burned in the Twinch Squad debacle too, but that would not keep me from ordering these figures from an established company. In addition to the accessories mentioned, I would like to see: * A Floyd head sculpt (for the moon suit). * An aged Dullea/Bowman head sculpt as an option for the red suit. * I'd also like to see figures of Bowman & Poole in their standard flight suits. A Pan Am Stewardess wouldn't be bad either. And if I'm going to go out on a limb here, how about the Moonwatcher Ape with Monolith? Thanks! Tony Hardy

And yes, I would also be willing to buy a single figure. As for additional props, I would like to see various instruments as shown in survey team poster. I'm not usually a pre-order kind of person so I would probably wait until the figures are actually produced. The price is acceptable and in line with other 2001 collectibles that are made by a certain master model maker ;-) Now, what I would like to see and I am sure that there are some ambitious members of the Atomic City family that will try this is to add lights where they might be needed. Did the chest packs carry some sort of illumination? Now Scott, you need to start designing a Moonbus large enough to house the three figures, or 2001 sets as a backdrop.

Would the figure be included or just a head as far as includes: Silver Suit - Include Camera, Flatpanel clipboard, baggie with miniature TMA1 charts, or possibly the sandwich case (What is that? Chicken?) Red Suit - Like the idea of green helmut and gloves, HAL key, AE35 Unit Yellow Suit - AE35, broken hose option I write it this way in case they ever want to sell them separately which I think would be the way to go if they are getting injection molding involved (they are gonna end up with lots of plastic parts - may was well get lots of everything and sell more than 500). 2) Your interest with regard to single figures at a per-figure higher price. I would be very interested in that if I ever wanted a full Tycho excavation grouping (you never know). If a figure is sold with the suit, then having an option to just by the suit empty (at a lesser cost) that would interest me. 3) Your interest with regard to the price. Seems fine if the parts are good quality. I agree with other that metal parts (collar, wrist and ankle rings) would really be the icing on the cake. 4) Your interest with regard to a pre-order special price. Depends how 'special'. --Jim

Posts: 39 (04/22/08 14:14:37) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Scott- a serious offer-would it be any help if you had a Twinch suit to examine-I could lend you them both the Discovery and Moon versions,subject to insurance,shipping etc. Now I know someone is going to mention 'recasting' or in this case retailoring-but: 1) Twinch didnt invent the thing,presumably Kubrick's estate does,but then i dont know of yourself,Timeslip,Lunar Models,Stargazer etc having any licensing problems 2) if Jose ******* wanted to sue,it least he'd have to show his face in court and I think a lynch squad (oh,didnt notice the pun!) would be there to greet him. Let me know if you are interested

As for recasting, nothing of the TS version is being copied. If anything, it is being used as a sample by the factory to figure out how much it will cost to make, much like sending real uniform items to be used as reference samples for a military figure. Scott

I have a Bowman and the helmet shape is totally wrong! The suit fabric is way too stiff. Why everyone seems to crave this I don't know. Your 1/12 scale figures on the other hand are GREAT!
