This model of the Klingon D-7 Battlecruiser is a direct descendant of the actual filming model. It is the same size (28 inches) and is identical to the filming model-- because the master I used was from a mold of the actual filming model!
The blue rectangles seen in the photo above are vinyl painting masks. These are used to either provide a painted white backing for the Klingon symbol decal, or that marking can be created in paint by using the appropriate masks. Both the masks and the decal sheet are provided in the kit.
The only item not provided in the kit is the rod that supports the model from the stand. The diameter, length and type of material is left to the modeler to determine because the choices are many. This model had no lights in it when it appeared in the series, so I have not engineered the kit to accomodate that. However, to save weight, the Primary Hull and Bridge sections are hollow. A brass tube is cast into the neck for support.
