We've still got a bit of time before these beasties start shipping, but once we have them in hand there will be a few things we'll all have to consider before assembly. So... Why wait till then before discussing a few alternate solutions to matters we'll all face?
First of all, I'm gonna bet that most of you who've bought one of these kits will want to install lights. I've been thinking about this since I first placed my preorder. But I'm still not sure what I'll actually do for lighting once I actually have the kit.
There are lots of lighting options, such as LEDs, grain of wheat bulbs and other incandescents, lightsheets, light strings and mini-flourescents. (Are there any others?) I'd like to put in a mini video screen for Dr. Floyd to watch television.
We'll also need to determine an accurate number of lights that'll need to be installed and where they'll have to go. The cockpit and exterior lights will be easy to decide on. But the thing that's been taking up most of my planning time is how to convincingly light the passenger compartment.
It would be nice if Scott could give us some rough dimensions of the free space we'll have within the hull to hold power sources. I'd also like to have a rough idea of the dimensions the passenger compartment ceiling will have. Will that lend itself more to light sheets or mini flourescents? How do you plan to light the Underwriters Aries, Scott?
What about translucent templates for the cockpit consoles? I know this kit will be much smaller scale than the Pod but will there be room for backlit console templates?
Let's start talking about the kit so that once we get them we'll be able to hit the ground running! >%^)
