The kit will go back into production in another month or so, but I will not be selling it. I have licensed the tooling to another company and they are going to make some improvements to the kit and start selling it through distributors and retailers, such as SciFi Matters. They will not be taking any direct orders, so mentioning who they are is a moot point. I will still have control over quality and they will be marketing the kit as "Captain Cardboard's Aries 1-B". I know the price will be going up, but I don't know by how much. I do know that the improvements they are going to make will make the new price worthwhile. I should have also mentioned that I will definitely be filling all outstanding orders, or all the orders I can before the molds fail. If that happens, I'll be returning the money that was sent in. I've taken my finished Aries around to some of the local contests and it always causes a buzz among the intellectually elite. They have yet to see one and a stunned by the quality of the casting. Although I am not a talented builder it did manage to win "Best Sci Fi" at a recent contest. I've got some images posted on our club website at www.stic.net/users/alamosq

Thanks for attempting the Aries Project--got to be one of 2001's coolest ships! I just got the smaller Cap'n Cardboard version, and in comparing the thin geometrical mosaics of the hull plating covering the top hemisphere of the ship with slo-mo shots of the ship from the movie, I discovered that the Captain Cardboard design is actually a mirror image (reversed) depiction of the original film ship's plates. Thought I'd pass the word along on behalf of all us affectionate nitpickers out here! Thanks again for all your dedication and hard work!

The shot in the film is reversed, not the detail on the model. I'm being serious about this. We looked at this long and hard and realized the shot (Aries descending, really the only good top-view in the whole film) was flopped. This happens a lot in film, so it isn't surprising (remember the reversed shot of R2 in SW?) Scott

You found the only possible right answer to my charge of hull plating reversal from Finnickydom. What a confidence builder! You've obviously done your homework. Must've been a tough call deciding whether to go with the design on the actual effects model, or what we saw on-screen in that definitive scene. Anyway you look at it, you guys are giants! What was the size and scale of the Captains origional Aries 1-B replica ? Just interested as I have seen the Capts pics of the tops side by side. Thanks in advance David
