Yo-yo,
I've been using standard testor's enamels out of the jar for some time now and have never been truly satisfied with their performance. Mostly for their lack of shelf life. And the mess, while manageable, I would not miss it were it to go away.
I've never been trusting enough of acrylics to make the switch. I started life as a fine artist and began truly painting with acrylics, then moved to oils forever. Acrylics dry to a tone that is lighter than wet and were therefore untrustworthy in terms of color. And what is paint if not anything other than color? Also, acrylic chips and peels in a manner that enamel does not. Enamel is also a tougher surface. I'd also like to stay in the affordable range of paints as well.
So, what I am asking is: what what should I consider switching over to -if at all? When it comes to base spray paints, there's no choice but enamel. Should I just stick w/ testor's? How are the Tamiya acrylics? Model Master seems like a good brand from the little I've used of them. (though on the $$$ side).. There's another brand ... humbolt, humbrucht? Does setting a coat of one over the other work well? Does one bind to the other well in this regard?
I ask now as I don't want any chance of screwing up the CMK when I get that! I need that to go smoothly as once that surface gets messed up, it's all over.
thanks for your suggestions!
