Does anyone have any decent pictures of the Nuclear Weapons platform? I thought I'd give it a go and scratch build one.

Check out Starship Modeler, which even has an image of the Soviet nuke that was cut from the film.

I've got finished patterns for one of the platforms that I plan on releasing before the end of the year. Overall length is about 14 inches, and almost as fat as a soda can.

Hi all, I am planning out a build of the first satellite seen in the jumpshot. All the satellites have an insignia on them except this one is too hard to see. I think it's on the vertical part (conning tower) and I think it's a USAF star Roundel. --Jim

Jim, that is correct. This is the US orbiting bomb, which has the USAF star and stripe insignia. Here's a screen grab from the movie. www.starshipmodeler.com/2...mb1_us.jpg The image is a little dark. Here is the enhanced image.
![]() This website says the 2001 will be released in high definition this year! Of course, we now have two formats, with 2001 being in HD-DVD. I won't be buying a player until it supports both formats. |

Thanks for that! Wow. Really obvious now. I also notice that while the concept drawing of this vehicle (Bizony's book) shows it pretty much as the model pictures above, it looks like they thinned down the horizontal body quite a bit for the actual filming miniature. I don't think the lens is compressing it, it's actually built built thinner. Thoughts? --Jim

Nice work Stargazer! Now I really have a fire in my belly to build one. If anyone is interested I've posted my preliminary drawing here:
pod.sparknet.ca/images/Ju...dwg_v1.pdf I'm still fussing with some the details but it's getting closer. I wish the original still shots of these were in existence somewhere. Probably in Kubrick's garage as so many things were. --Jim |

2001 is also slated for Blu Ray release, no release date assigned as yet.
It is highly unlikely there will be a player made supports both technologies, as they are competing technologies. You will have to wait until one format wins out. That said the smart money is on Blu Ray as the gaming market will drive it that way. Marty... |
