B uuuu t My wife has just asked "what do you want for your birthday? (It being Dec 02 61) and I have just seen the Lunar Models Discovery, listed on EBay $150 so far and ends 102107. Questions to All and esp Scott And EVAPOD man as I cannot afford eithers GREAT efforts Is it truely as problematic as people have stated? Does it lack crispness? Are the visable details accurate? Which Discovery is it, 2001 or 2010? Since I have the 1:12 Pod, and the Aries and the Command Module are on order. It is going to be up against tough line up in the model room. Should I see if I can get her to buy the Moon Bus which I WANT instead or If there is anyone with the Captains "Discovery Antenna Section Kit" that would sell. Because my wife says she wants to be able to Give me the present on my birthday. The Aries 1-B she bought me for last birthday . It took a while but I did manage to convince her that extra time was not only OK but actually good due to the film being the surviving reference. However this birthday there must be a kit! Barbara says she wants to wrap it and she cannot wrap a line entry from a bank statement! So Guys and Dolls Thanks in advance For all your great advice

You can buy a new kit from Lunar Models for $165.95, only $15 more than the current price on eBay. If we assume a real Discovery of 100.6 m (55' studio model at 1/6 scale), the kit at 32" works out to 1/124, very close to 1/125 scale used by Heller. The website says 1/211 scale, which gives a real length of 171.5 m. The Starship Modeler review gives a length of 30" for the kit which would make the kit 1/132 at 100.6 m. A BIG thank-you to Robert who provided my wife with a PERFECT! (No bubbles, No mold marks and No bent/broken bits) 1988, 20th Anniversary Discovery by Lunar Models. The reason it is perfect?, well it could be the fact that it is; of a "Limited Edition Release of 75" Kit number "1" . It is being built! and it will sit beside the Command Module and Antenna Kits while the rest of the missing bits are scratched as some of us over at (cmk15.proboards92.com/index.cgi ) Tycho Shipyards Project: XD-1 CMK-AMK are thinking of doing, then I will set things up as a Big-D and Little-D to honour S.K. & Sir A.C.C. The Collar and Neck assembly is off axis and pure imagination (or hallucinogenics) were used to create the detailing; one of the pod bay doors has 'crud' molded into the rim; the 3 Engines are off axis and one has a hole in a rim that was cast too thin, the spine details are soft everywhere. I've put it aside for now, so there could very well be other problems lurking everywhere. The engine block is nicely done, though I would not bet one penny on the accuracy. I whole-heartedly agree with Mike Dentzer's review - www.starshipmodeler.com/2001/md_disc.htm - though I do not consider the kit worth sinking the effort that he put into it. I will build it as is to see exactly how it stacks up. I do not expect to be pleasantly surprised, but you never know. Best Regards, -t
