After nearly a year, The HAL Project has reached its next stage of development. The site has been completely revised and offers the latest HAL 9000 Screensaver (version 2.0) for download. Version 2.0 now supports standard & widescreen aspects, as well as Windows and OS X operating systems. I redrew the scenes in flash, this allows a smother integration with the animated sequences. Right click and choose "zoom in" and you'll see they are mostly illustrations. It gives a much sharper look than tranditional dvd captures

The execution first rate! I looked a few weeks ago and was glad to see all the updates that you put in. I must admit I have been derelict in signing your guest book and in heaping praises here! My apologies on that. I d'loaded the Hal edsktop and screensaver months ago and finally installed them the other week. Since then, my computer has been that much happier. It's true. There's no way that screen captures would have worked for what you are doing. And creating (never mind the research!) so much material must have been arduous! I am going to simply figure that you even have the screen timings spot on too! and if not, that's okay by me. The work is awe-some! Technical question: The process? Drawn in Illustrator (PShop) and animated in flash or Afx? All drawn in Flash/Fireworks? Thanks very very much for your work! I will be posting some screen grabs and looping gifs here over the next months and people will see that, while screen grabs are cool and good in their own right, they could not have fulfilled the requirements you had for your project. The site has been a great challenge but also fun to work on. Everything has been drawn in flash, I'm not a great fan of Photoshop or Illustrator for web work, I use Paint Shop Pro 7 (ancient I know, but it doesn't take an age to open and works well) and Flash 8. Just to keep you all informed: I've recently udpated the site & screensaver to add random play - I'll do one more small update (to include HIB monitor animations) before Stage Three which will probably be the final stage. It will support Linux operating systems, multiple displays and by then I'll have the Blue Ray or HD DVD copy of 2001 which will mean more animations, the website (and thusly the active desktop HAL simulation) will be larger and the displays should be more accurate. I'm really looking forward to the day I can start working on it! But it may take a while Thanks again ModelMan - it really makes it all worth while! Oh and timings aren't quite perfect but i'll get there in the end!
