It's also showing in October somewhere here too. I'll try and find that and post it.
I've seen the 35mm on the big screen, looking forward to the 70mm! |

I've seen 2001 nearly a hundred times and never saw most of the details I saw last night. I took every opportunity to study every nook and cranny of every shot I could. Unfortunately, the print had been run through a meat grinder first.
As a dustbuster in the industry, I was cringing in my seat before the title card even finished. Painful stuff. It was also an exceptionally compelling reason to specialize in film restoration as I have thought of doing. A VES fellow, gave a preamble in which one question was how many people had never seen the film -nearly half the audience! For them to see this filthy a print as their first exposure was disheartening to me. Still, the DETAIL!!! Holy crud! Never imagined there was so much going on that I simply enver saw before! Astounding! Now if someone will digitally restore the 70mm print for the 40th anniversary next year, I will be at peace! |

There was another screening for the 40th Anniversary last Friday:
http://www.oscars.org/events/2001aspaceodyssey/index.html I was lucky to go and took a few (bad) pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lee_stringer/2446103225/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/lee_stringer/2446103621/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/lee_stringer/2446104569/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/lee_stringer/2446105779/ Surprises included a video from the ISS and Buzz Aldrin in the audience. A very entertaining, atleast 30 minute, intro from Tom Hanks/ I'm sure a few of the complimentary programs will be appearing on ebay any day now. Oh and tickets were $5!!!!!!!!! truly the best value for an event I've ever been too. BUT WAIT :-) There's another event on May 21st http://www.oscars.org/events/2001aspaceodyssey/index2.html Anyone remotely close to LA should book tickets, as I'm sure it'll be well worth it. They go on sale May 1st. Lee |

You were there, dude? I'm guessing you made it til midnight too!
I posted a bunch over in the off-topic form. Buzz and the ISS were two things I hadn't mentioned yet. BTW, everyone, the ISS intro will be on youtube at some point. More from me to come over in the off-topic area. Good pix! I figured they would stop all cams and such. Maybe I'll bring a voice recorder to the may21 showing. Looks like I was about 20 rows directly behind you. I had an aisle seat. Wasn't that a reserved area where you sat? Once people began clearing out during the talk, I moved center aisle about 10 rows from the stage.
Best Regards,
