I'm a huge fan of Scott's and have absolutely enjoyed assembling my D-7. I finished it today, and it now has a proud spot on my computer desk. I took a bunch of pictures of it. However, I didn't realize there was already dust accumulating on the model until I looked at the close up shots. Oh well. I've tried to include descriptions with some of the links below. I added some detail that clearly isn't canon and I wanted to explain my motivation for doing such. These masks are available from REL (you can find him on several sci-fi modeling boards). I used the two-tone paint scheme that you can find on this board. I varied the paints just a bit with white to make the contrast with the paneling. The impulse engine decals take their shape from those on the K'Tinga. The hangar decal adds a lot too, imho. I bet they'd look pretty menacing all lined up together!!! I used the original paint formula that Scott posted here on this site: Green Tamiya XF-21 - 1 part Tamiya XF-23 - 2 parts Gray Tamiya XF-66 Once I applied the paint masks (for the patterns on the ship), I cut the gray and green paints with a little bit of white paint and then airbrushed over the masks. The result was the two-tone pattern. For some reason the two-tone pattern looks much darker in the photos than it does in person.

I really wanted to get some experience with them before finishing up my PL 1:350 Refit. They were very easy to use. I applied the masks, mixed paint and airbrushed both sides of the D-7 in an afternoon. As for hard lines, I think the trick is to keep the amount of paint you airbrush over the masks to a minimum to prevent ridges. I did have minor ridges in a few areas, but a little light wet sanding with some fine grit sandpaper took care of most of it. I used the sensor spike from a spare 1:1000 PL TOS Enterprise for the sensor on the D-7. The length seemed just right, and it had some interesting detail to it.
