Nice job! What software are you using? I have a copy of Lightwave 3D and have an interest in doing the interior in 3D (Paulbo did some nice pioneering work in
the Space Pod Working Group years ago... it's hidden in a "Msc." section along with lots of other Pod details).
I have some Blu-Ray digital captures at http://www.flickr.com/photos/charletta/sets/72157604934008774 that might help your research. If you want to see a close-up of a particular part, let me know when it appears in the film and I'll post it. The hi-rez captures also make great desktop backgrounds... Scott mentioned to me that he knows someone who did the entire Pod in 3D and sent the data to a milling machine. The result is a very large, very accurate 6 foot 9 inch diameter Pod. Too cool. Dale |

Thanks guys for the comments, The pod was made up in Max8 and rendered in V-ray, I know that I am making mistakes but will correct them as I can.
Sorry for the lack of real progress but I can only work on this when I get home and when the wife lets me. I am also making up the Orion and have also started work on the Aires but I only do them when I get bored. The ultimate will be the Discovery but I'm going to have a bash at the Spacestation too. May take until retirement at this rate! |

I'd like to see some wireframes when you have a chance! Is each component it's own piece of geometry or did you pull it all out of a single sphere?

Thanks THX I may well be asking you for stuff on the Space Station as I'm trying to get the proportions right and will be doing some animation of the thing
with a mind to reimagining the docking sequence and also the Aires leaving the station
All very ambitious I know but its a goal to aim for. Best Alex |

Greetings all,
I'll contribute some more frame captures as requested. I had to rebuild Vista on my PC due to intermittent freezes, so once I finish with the security patches, I'll get started with the caps. I'm also a fan of the ODEC site... very nice! Now if I can reboot my model making skills like my computer, I'll be able to start Scott's EVA pod model and the weapons platform models... Best, Dale |

You know, looking at this great screen grabs, I am again amazed at the level of detail in this movie. I don't think any movie has bettered the level of
shear quality that these set designers/model builders/FX techs achieved here in 2001. My mind has been reblown! --Jim

WOW! I can't believe the new stuff I'm seeing in the pictures, thanks for posting. Any chance you can grab a shot of Poole in the yellow spacesuit
sitting in the chair on the bridge? And, maybe the front shot of the moonbus flying. I've been trying to find shots of these for my desktop but can't
find anything high res. Thanks!

Very nice, Alex. I worked on one (no arms yet) in Lightwave, and had a bit of a time tidying up the join between the black window bezel and the sphere. How are
you going to model the bezel?

Hi Mograph, I havent crossed that bridge yet but I think I may model it by first cloning the sphere so that there are 2 identical ones and then using boolean
function to extract the window from the first sphere but keeping the object extraction for reference and then using same object to do an object intersection to
create the windown object itself from the second intact sphere which should fit perfectly within the hole created in the first sphere.
If that doesnt work...well, ummm |

Creating the window geometry for the Space Pod... | ||

I was able to get a workable window shape once by creating an inverted truncated cone the shape of the window transition area and doing a boolean
subtraction from the sphere. Just my 2 cents...
